Bernheim Wheat Whiskey Buy

After swirling, Bernheim is caramel and honey-forward with a little more heat, and now lemon, coconut meat, oak, tobacco, cinnamon, dried out chocolate bar, honey baked bread, and just a hint of nuttiness. It really does smell like Weller Antique 107. The oak also has a great mature fragrance to it, like Remus Volstead 14 and Woodford Very Fine Rare Bourbon, that makes it smell much older than 7 years old and ties it all together into a nicely fragrant whiskey

So what exactly is wheat whiskey? Wheat whiskey is similar to bourbon, except the dominant grain (at least 51%) is wheat, rather than corn. All the other rules apply, such as the requirement to be aged in a new charred oak container. Like bourbon, the remainder of the mash bill can be made up of any other grains, but corn and malted barley are usually used.

The Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey mash bill utilizes just over 50% winter wheat, with the remainder comprised of corn and malted barley. Specifically, it is: 51% wheat, 37% corn, 12% malted barley. So it is like an inverted heavily wheated bourbon, with the corn and wheat swapped. So what does the high proportion of wheat do to the flavors?

Bernheim Barrel Proof will be a nationally allocated product that will be released twice a year in batches. Each batch will be assigned its own batch number and will vary in proof. The whiskey is expected to roll out to stores by the end of February for a suggested retail price of $64.99.

Because it is made with wheat, Bernheim has a unique, more mellow taste profile than a traditional Bourbon, so it delivers a smooth, high quality cocktail without overpowering or making it too heavy. Its mixability with a variety of juices and liqueurs makes it perfect for creating an endless array of crisp and refreshing drink recipes.

Bernheim Original Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey is the first wheat whiskey to use winter wheat as its primary grain, creating a soft, sweet flavor, per the brand. This extension to the Bernheim, per the brand, delivers the same familiar smoothness with even more depth of flavor from seven to nine full years of aging.

Bernheim Original Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey is the first truly new variety of American straight whiskey introduced since Prohibition. It is the first whiskey to use winter wheat as its primary grain creating a soft, sweet dram with flavours of honey, vanilla and creamy toffee.

"Initial scents are floral and wheat cracker-like; aeration adds deeper, mildly sweet aromas of sap, fresh vanilla bean and light honey. Palate entry is finely balanced with wood, moderately sweet grain and acidity; by midpalate the alcohol warms the throat with off-dry flavors of charred oak, light toffee and sap. Finishes elegant and warm. A true sipping whiskey."

A few weeks ago, I reviewed a whiskey called Rebel Reserve. I went over my love for wheated bourbons, and my general displeasure with the offering from Rebel Reserve. Cue some generic triumphant movie music, because Bernheim Original is here!

The taste is silky smooth, with a slight bite on the back-end. The wheat really shines with this whiskey, and you can immediately tell that Bernheim is matured to perfection. The texture is surprisingly light, for a 90 proof expression.

Heaven Hill Distillery introduced Bernheim Original back in 2005, and while the label has withstood the test of time, wheat whiskey has only just caught on well enough to inspire imitators. It has also bucked the prevailing trend in whiskey, having gone from a No Aging Statement whiskey averaging about 5 years of age to an aging statement whiskey designated as a 7 year old.

Given its unique nature, a word about how Bernheim Original is made is in order. The process is very similar to bourbon-making, except the recipe is comprised mostly of winter wheat with some corn and barley mixed in. Otherwise it is distilled and aged in charred oak barrels, just like bourbon whiskey. Bernheim is then aged for five years and then blended and bottled at 90 proof (45% alcohol). The result is a bourbon-like whiskey which is not as thickly sweet as bourbon tends to be.

The following indicators should be taken as only a guide and not a set of hard and fast rules. Some "premium" whiskeys really are quite terrible, while some mass market products are good enough to pour into a decanter and serve to the Duke of Edinburgh.

Bernheim Wheat Whiskey is a 7 year age stated offering that is distilled in Louisville, Kentucky and bottled in Bardstown, Kentucky by Heaven Hill. The brand is owned by Heaven Hill Distilleries and has a has a mashbill of 51% wheat and 49% undisclosed amounts of corn and malted barley. The whiskey is 90 proof and comes in at a cost of around $30. The whiskey is made in small batches with each batch being around 100 barrels.

The palate is low to medium viscosity, and the wheat grain in very apparent. Notes translate from the nose to the palate and include caramel, sweet cinnamon, allspice, charred oak, toffee, green apple, and honey.

Produced by Heaven Hill, this wheated whiskey is bottled at 7 years old and 90 proof. Its wheat-heavy mash bill delivers an approachably sweet profile, while a whiff of toasted oak adds an extra layer of flavor to the finish. Given its 7-year-old age statement, and the growing popularity of wheated releases in general, this bottle offers great bang for buck.

Product notes: "At its launch, Bernheim Original Straight Wheat Whiskey was the first truly new variety of American straight wheat whiskey introduced since Prohibition. Heaven Hill Master Distillers saw an opportunity to give today's whiskey connoisseurs a unique taste experience. Bernheim was the only straight whiskey to use winter wheat as the primary grain in its mashbill, giving it a soft, sweet flavor and medium finish."

"Today, on the front of the bottle, Bernheim proudly displays its finest attributes: Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey, small batch, and a 7 year age statement. With an age statement of 7 years, Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey truly is well worth the wheat. It is the only straight wheat whiskey distributed nationally. As a straight whiskey, it meets the same criteria as Bourbon or rye--aged a minimum of two years in new, charred oak barrels, distilled at less than 160 proof, and contains no coloring, flavoring or blending agents. As a small batch product, it is made with a dump of 100 barrels or less."

A few years ago Heaven Hill bucked the NAS trend by adding an age-statement to the label of Bernheim Original during a redesign, thus turning an NAS whiskey into a 7 year-old whiskey without changing the bottle contents or, drumroll please, the price! Good on you, Heaven Hill. Nose: A piercing mix of sour cherry, fragrant blooming fruit trees, and orange peel. Under that, a layer of toasted almonds and a heavy wheaty graininess like cake dough (or poundcake). There is a tinge of acetone, but it is thoroughly overpowered by the robust fruit and grain aromas.

he is obviously an entry level whiskey drinker who has not refined his palate yet. I mean Woodfird is a fine bourbon. As a daily drinker it is more than serviceable, but as a favorite? Methinks he may have not have been exposed to a whole lot.

Taste: medium strength, full body. Notes of vanilla, fruit, nuts, and the bakery notes evident on the nose. The spice has a nice kick that is at once powerful but not overpowering. Other reviewers have noted that this is a very smooth whiskey, but I think mistake the smoothness of the spirit for a lack of flavor or depth.

Notes: This is a new release of the Bernheim Wheat Whiskey for Heaven Hill but this type of whiskey actually quite an old one as far as the United States is concerned. Wheat whiskey was actually the original whiskey of the United States with hundreds of distilleries in New York state alone. Long before the whiskey rebellion and for a period of time afterwards wheat was the dominant form of whiskey. The use of corn and the advent of bourbon was something that happened long after wheat and also before then rye whiskey ( which is seeing a recent resurgence after becoming nearly extinct) had taken root in American culture.

Unlike rye whiskey, wheat did, however, seem to entirely die out as a category of whiskey until recently. Rye has enjoyed a significant renaissance in recent years and wheat, while not exactly burning up the whiskey category seems to be making a comeback and have at least a toehold in the market. Heaven Hill came out with a Bernheim Wheat at least 2 years old version of this whiskey a few years ago and have then released an earlier version of this, their seven-year-old version. Aged seven years in a new, charred oak barrel, distilled at less than 160 proof and contains no coloring, flavoring or blending agents.Made from soft winter wheat with a mash bill of at least 51% wheat ( the balance being mostly corn with some barley to aid in fermentation and to add taste). Less than 150 barrels of this was made and they made 2 small batches of 75 barrels each for the production run ( Finally someone specifying what they considered a small batch !) 041b061a72
